Why a manatee?

Have you ever seen a manatee? They are great, silly looking beasts. They float around in the water, doing little more with their lives than eating and getting run over by motorboats. Their most notable moment of internet fame involves one swimming into the viewing window at an aquarium and smashing it's face against the glass. Repeatedly.

Silliness, appreciation for food, a tendency to get smited by life, and make the same stupid mistake 15 times in a row? This makes an excellent metaphor for my life.

As for "why a fish?" The answer is simple. Anything can be made more interesting by adding a fish. For example: "I explored the local library today... with a fish!" Or! "I donated blood today and nearly passed out while waiting for pizza at Papa John's... with a fish!"
